signs of mediocracy

marcel mauss, an anthropologist said, gifts are never "free". Rather, human history is full of examples that gifts give rise to reciprocal exchange.
if someone gave you something and you asked "why?" and "for what occasion?", never bite the answer, "nothing, i just feel like giving you a gift."
one way or another all of us never give something out of nowhere. admit it or not, we have our own direct or indirect intentions and reasons why we do such. everything should be reciprocated especially among us, filipinos, because of the concept of utang na loob or gratitudeness which is highly observed among us.i have been maintaining this blog site for almost two years now and i can say that i am pretty much familiar about the psyche of each bloggers that pass and go this site.
there are two kinds of bloggers in this virtual sphere. the one who writes for the sake of writing and expressing themselves. while the other one are those who only want to be popular through writing and expressing themselves. see the difference? the former are the ones who write remarkably and read other posts seriously. they are the kind of readers that you would want to have and keep because they would definitely give you remarks that you rightfully deserve. they would not hesistate to give you kudos if you did a great job and criticize up to the smallest details if you fail.while the latter are those who you can tag as mediocres (excuse me, for being too blatant). for them, what matters is not the topic or content of what they are writing but the number of hits or visits and comments they will get. these are the people who has the mindset that, if i visit you, you visit me as well.from defining the two, i couldn't tell which i am classified and probably neither do you. call me in denial, but who cares. hehehe.i think the interesting part of these is determining and sorting out which blogger remains and who just passes by and i actually have my five signs in my list.
5. the papapampam. some would definitely identify themselves in your cbox. eg. hi there! just hopping by. without leaving a comment on your post. from there you'll already know that that person didn't even bothered reading or scanning your site. papampam is papansin (bagong word na natutunan ko. hehehe).
4. the conceited!! they will ask you for ex-link at the first visit and its like asking for kiss in your first date--- ACKWARD!!!yung mga tipong kapag sinearch mo sa dictionary name nila nakalagay ang picture nila sa tabi ng word at sa synonyms, ang blog site nila.
3. the ass kisser. "you have a nice page here," "you are one remarkable writer" and everything that you would think of that would make your ego blast from here to the nearest star.bakit ass kisser? huwag ka magtagalog. bawal magtagalog? oo, bawal! ha? eto iodized salt. papakin mo muna.
2. after the ass kissing lines they would ask you to visit their blog as well. after that you'll wish that they will be recognize by blogger.com as a spammer and block them forever.
1. some will bother leaving a comment. but it will either be another one liner ass kissing statement or something not even engaging a conversation like good! great! nice post... as if someone taught them that comments should always be in a positive tone.
*if you're one of these. please just spare me my site...

i'm contemplating of whether or not to leave a comment. analyzing if i belong to the former or to the latter group u mentioned, or if my comments fall in any of the 5 categories u enumerated. hehehehe...

in any case, i sincerely do enjoy your thought provoking posts. no ass kissing here :)

You are one remarkable writer! hahahaha. Eh tama nga naman kasi sila.
Well, i'm kinda guilty of those. I do it with first time visitors who left a comment (just for the heck of it) and never returned.
Pampam is a new word to me too. 2 weeks pa lang yan sa vocabs ko. LOL

as for me, i make comments if i can really relate to a post.

i also only "follow" those i think i will enjoy learning something from.

i like your writing and posts and i hope you don't think im just one of those blog-hoppers :)

yeah.. just cut the BS.. i was once like that..there was even a time i created a post on my blog telling others that i shall be closing it down..just couldn't find any reason for maintaining it no more..but other bloggers helped me to find the right reason..now i am living up to that..

this whole thing has seemingly created a small community to me. and that's what i enjoy most..

It's good that you mentioned this because comments do not guarantee that your entry has been thoroughly read and understood. It's a poor measure. I'm sure you know that there are readers who religiously follow [your] blog/s and yet, never leave traces (comments) unless they have something of value to voice out.

And speaking of comments always being in a positive tone, it's gratitude wanderer. :) Hmm... among other things.

WOW! Great entry you have here. Ex-link, bro? Visit my blog here.

Ako binura ko na mga blog links site ko. Pati cbox. =)

Gusto ko sana gumawa ng post naman sa mga blogger na mahilig magpost ng "body parts" nila. Parang "selling oneself" ika nga. Kaso maraming tatamaan na mga bloggers who are dear to me =)

OMG, your blog is so profound, I like it beri much!! Exlink tayo pretty please with cherry on top. Hahaha.

I streamlined my links so that I could add more blogs that are worth reading. Kapag nasa link ko kasi ang isang blogger, I religiously follow his blog, no matter how some of his entries uninspire me sometimes.

You have a point. It's your right.

That's how someone can gather numerous hits. You should live with that.

Freedom of non-sense comments. If you can freely state your opinions in this blog, then readers should also have the freedom to comment whatever he/she wanted to. If you don't like that then please read paragraph one.

Should you delete this post?

Emmanuel Pasyon, sa susunod na blog action day na yan e ipalagay mo na me requirements before entering. Na dapat e me kakayahan silang makipagdiskusyon sa mga opinionated na tao. Nasagot na po ba ang problema?

O kaya isumbong mo ke Bonggang bonggang Bong bong. Cguradong me aksyon yan.

Mr. Scheez, if you have it then flaunt it. Kung di mo kaya e di wag mo tingnan. Magbablog nga din ako about Insecurities.

ex-link?

wahahaha... joke lang.

nice blog you have here. tama, minsan nakakasawa na nga din na laging ganiyan mababasa mo, yun pala nanghihingi lang din ng comment. hmmm i guess it's part of the blogosphere - where the visitor expects to be visited in return.

...pre hope you'll visit my blog soon. ex-link? :D

You nailed it right on the head.

It's easy to spot those that just blog-hop and don't really read the sites. I hate those that just leave mindless comments. I want to ask them "why bother?" I try to consider the time and effort that goes into an entry, and try to reciprocate with appropriate feedback.

*if you're one of these. please just spare me my site...

I like your tactful way of just telling those kind of people to get the hell away from your site. Hahaha!

P.S. I would so hate to be labeled as mediocre!!!

I'm scared now. I want to be better than just mediocre...

Prop Carl said...

hate to admit it, but i was like those you've mentioned.

but now that i'm just in the dark, i don't care anymore. i read when i want to read, and i don't when i don't feel like.

i comment because i want to communicate. but anyhow, we are like that sometimes, one way or another.

i was abt to say nice post, but i guess being cliched at this point would be embarrassing. ^_^

Aethen said...

How about those who are reading your blog really but not used to post a comment? Someone who even save your blog as page and read it when he is offline.

I guess this blogger is an exemption to the type types of bloggers you stated. Sana exempted si Aethen. :D

Have a great day!

i dunno. the blogosphere is full of trash, garbage. natatabunan ang mga gems ng blogosphere. natamaan naman ako, i do bloghoppin (to blogs that are uhm less interesting). but when i say something like 'this is nice' i really mean it like hell.

one cant help but be amazed by the audience and the traffic brought by blogging, really. and, in blogging, we risk our privacy, our sensitivities.

Poipagong (toiletots) said...

I read all... belonged to half. And muttered "ouch!"

Sus. Pero eto lang, di ko mapigilan. I just had to jump into the defense of some "so called mediocre"

5. The papapampam: Quite ironic, but some would go for the cbox because they are a bit "shy". The cbox would post as a safer ground so as to give a general comment (off topic to the posts) and messages that would tag as "not masyadong feeling close". Some are just unfortunate because their browser are just too slow to load up comment boxes. (haha excuses excuses)

4. Conceited: teka! me pic ako sa blog ko, and if you search my name in google, you'd find my blog and probably my multiply. Ano gusto mo sabihin, conceited ako? aba aba. hehe. Its not being conceited. I write for myself nowadays. My life. Its fast becoming my diary. And I just see it fit to place a picture in my diary. My blog is me. Its being transparent and being not afraid of showing who I am. Teka ulit, parang linya ko dati yang "ex link tayo" ah. Pero at least yung mga nakaex link ko karamihan I've maintained good relations with. its a start. Lame line, but its a start.

3. Ass kisser: Bakit, masama mag appreciate? hmmpf!

2. Spammer: eh kung di ako makavisit minsan lang spammer na? eh kung busy eh, ano magagawa ko?

1. wala lang. basta.

"if i visit you, you visit me as well"

HAKHAKAHK

i have to thank Ely for linking us all up in his entry, else i won't find your site. i liked what i read, they're all true! especially the one i highlighted above! and i did have run across bloggers like that. worse, there are those that will link you only if u link them and have this presidential decree that you have to link FIRST, in big bold letters.

i've had all them and more. what you missed was the group of bloggers who have their own country hahaha turf i mean, one big humungous bayanihan of sorts.

i've been invited by a couple of them and i have not even seen any of them in my site, worse not even leaving footprint, worse than worse, they have no clue who i am, what i write and what i like to dang write. so when i checked their blog fundamentals, i was a total outcast. so what am i? as i ran through who they were, i realized that they're probably gonna use because i am just cute and beautiful, just plain irresistible.

such is online life. very real actually.

sorry, got carried away. i thought this was my blog. hehehe!
