baguio: too much phallicism?

noong una ko'ng nakita ang mga wooden penis key chain at man in the barrel na souveneirs sa baguio, akala ko for commercial purpose lamang ito at walang direct cultural reflection para sa mga taga dito.

    Male chauvinistic beliefs. Parang the male genitalia is a symbol of power and dominance in the tribes people of the Mountain Province. Methinks.

    Oh lord! Hahahah WOW...it feels like being in the Castro area there! :)

    I miss Baguio...I lived there for about year back in 1993. If I remember right, it's by the Tabora Bldg...I think there was an ice plant below the apartment my parents rented for me and my 2 cousins...so, our floor is always COLD! :) Good times, good times. Im hoping to visit Baguio when I get there in December!

    Thanks for your post...it brings back good memories. :)

    siguro kasi yung mga native tribes sa baguio, they see the males as the superior ones? they are the ones who lead, and work. very patriarchal. kaya siguro ganun. nagevolve na lang siguro ang tingin ng tao dahil nagevolve na halos lahat... but culture and traditions are bound to outlast the times, i guess...

    hmmm... i think the carvings are primarily due to their lack of appropriate covers since kopong-kopong which is still apparent among the natives in Baguio and Ifugao provinces. Dba?

    I was in Baguio last Friday, just ate dinner at Central Park and I think they have a new, bad cook. Sayang.

    dito nga sa cambodia they worship them! they are said to be symbols of the hindu god shiva that's why they have carved around a thousand cocks here in the river bed where they get their water... said to sanctify and fertilize their lives...

    i guess phallic worship and pop culture surrounding it is present sa lahat ng cultures...
